Greetings from the SIOP Nurses Committee,

We hope many of you are planning on attending the upcoming SIOP Congress in Washington, DC. This year’s registration fees will include attendance at the Education Day. We have planned this Education Day session in conjunction with the SIOP Supportive Care Committee on October 12th. The topics include: Pain Management in Children with Cancer, Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting, Fatigue, Adherence to Chemotherapy Regimens, and implementation of a Pediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS) program. The remainder of the SIOP Congress offers great opportunities to hear insightful presentations, review informative posters, and network with colleagues. We look forward to a joint session with Childhood Cancer International on October 14th. The nurses’ business meeting is set for 5 pm on October 14th. The PODC Nurses Working Group will also meet in Washington, DC (time to be determined) All attendees are welcome.

Nurses who attended the SIOP Africa and SIOP Asia Continental Congresses benefitted from fabulous educational sessions.  Members of SIOP PODC Nurses Working Group presented their oral abstracts as well as planned and spoke at the educational sessions including Rehana Punjwani (Pakistan), Yuliana Hanliana  (Indonesia), Wang,Xumei (China), Lisa Morrissey (USA) and Linda Abramovitz (USA) at SIOP Asia and Glenn Mbah (Cameroon), Pearl Semesta (Botswana) and Julia Challinor (USA) at SIOP Africa.  Nurses’ attendance at these continental congresses hit record levels with at least 50 nurses participating at each meeting. New working collaborations were established and existing partnerships were strengthened, as pictured in the attached photos.

The nurses’ committee is undergoing transitions in leadership. Pernilla Pergert from Sweden will assume the chair position for the Nursing Committee. The committee welcomes new members: Frieda Clinton (Ireland), Veronique van de Velde (Belgium), Lisa Morrissey (USA), and Rehana Punjwani (Pakistan) to fill slots from outgoing members Sizakele Mngomezulu (South Africa), Linda Abramovitz (USA), and Christina Baggott (USA). As always, input from other SIOP nurse members is always welcome and appreciated.
