We are facing an unprecedented and devastating situation caused by the coronavirus spreading rapidly around the world changing the way we work and live. I know that you as cancer organisations are particularly affected by this pandemic as you address the double challenge of cancer and the pandemic.
I enclose a letter from HRH Princess Dina Mired and myself, which outlines the way in which UICC will change its priorities for the rest of 2020 in the light of the coronavirus pandemic. As a membership organisation and a global health organisation, we have decided to strengthen our support for our members during a year of great challenge, to move to a virtual business model and to cancel or delay all planned face to face meetings which were due to take place in 2020. This includes cancelling the World Cancer Leaders’ Summit in October in Oman and delaying the World Cancer Congress to 16-18 March 2021.
We have considered every aspect of UICC’s work and our decisions have been made to ensure that our contribution to a world so affected by coronavirus is positive and supportive to those who are facing challenges on a day-to-day basis in all countries around the world.
Please see the attached letter for more information and follow how we will pursue our commitment to you as members of UICC on our website, through social media and our regular newsletters, which will be augmented by a series of webinars as we seek to connect and support you in the coming months.
May we wish you, your family, friends and colleagues well in this difficult time.
Dr Carry Adams
