SIOP is pleased to announce that Dr. Maja Beck-Popovic has been appointed as the new Chair of the WHO-SIOP Committee, following the decision of SIOP’s leadership. She will serve in this role until March 2026, ensuring continuity and progress in SIOP’s collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO).
Dr. Beck-Popovic, a respected leader in paediatric oncology and former Professor at CHUV, Lausanne, has already made significant contributions to the committee, notably through her engagement in the Global Status Report stakeholder dialogue held last year alongside the World Health Assembly. She takes over from Professor Kathy Pritchard-Jones, whose exceptional leadership has shaped the committee’s work and strengthened its partnership with WHO.
In her statement, Dr. Beck-Popovic expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the committee, acknowledging the outstanding work of her predecessor and the support of committee members. She also highlighted her commitment to continuing SIOP’s engagement with WHO to advance global childhood cancer care and policy development.
On behalf of SIOP and WHO, we extend our deepest appreciation to Professor Pritchard-Jones for her invaluable contributions and wish her a swift recovery.
We look forward to working under Dr. Beck-Popovic’s leadership to further strengthen our global efforts in improving outcomes for children with cancer.
Stay tuned for updates on the committee’s ongoing initiatives and collaborations.
