Dear SIOP Members,
We are very happy to invite you to have a look at the new website of the SIOP Africa / PODC Collaborative Wilms Tumour Project.
This project has been implementing and evaluating a SIOP PODC adapted treatment guideline in several centres in Africa since 2014. Since then many more children are completing treatment and surviving the disease.
The vision is that children with common and curable cancers in sub -Saharan Africa will achieve survival rates greater than 60-70% in line with the vision of the Global Initiative on Childhood Cancer, led by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The mission is to improve survival for children with common and curable cancers in Sub Saharan Africa by reducing treatment related deaths, reducing abandonment of treatment and by using locally appropriate treatment guidelines. Centres in Africa wishing to join are most welcome and please email us directly here.
We are starting Phase II of the project in the second half of 2020.
On behalf of the whole team,
Dr Vivian Paintsil (Kumasi, Ghana), Prof Inam Chitsike (Harare, Zimbabwe) and Dr Trijn Israels (Coordinator, Utrecht, The Netherlands) – Collab WT Africa Steering Comittee
