The pediatric hematology-oncology department at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Sainte Justine in Montreal is looking for two doctors for maternity leave replacements (locum).
CHU Sainte Justine is the largest pediatric hospital in Quebec. The department has a team of 23 hematologist-oncologists, including 5 researchers with 20% clinical time. It has 28 inpatient beds, plus 12 cellular therapy beds. The outpatients center welcomes 19,000 patients per year. The department receives 140 new oncology cases per year and performs 70 cellular therapies. The cohort of patients followed
for sickle cell anemia is 500 children. The hematologist-oncologists are also responsible for special hematology laboratories, cellular therapies, coagulation, molecular biology with a clinical genomics platform.
The 2 maternity leave replacements will start from May 2025 and July 2025, respectively, for a maximum duration of 12 months each. The arrival dates and the duration of the replacement can be adapted to the needs of the candidates.
The criteria for applying are defined below:
Having good skills in French, both oral and written
Holding or obtaining a certificate from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or an equivalent; in one of the following 3 categories:
o Subspecialty in pediatric hematology/oncology
o Subspecialty in adult hematology or adult oncology
o Subspecialty in pediatrics
The medical practice will be in general pediatric hematology-oncology. Depending on the specific skills of each candidate, a practice more focused on certain subdomains may be considered: non-malignant hematology, hemostasis and coagulation, solid tumors, leukemia and lymphoma. The candidate will not have responsibilities in cellular therapies or in laboratories. The candidate will always be accompanied by other hematologist-oncologists in the department. They can always refer to other hematologist-oncologists in the department for patient care decisions. They can participate in clinical research and teaching activities if they wish. The on-call duties are 2 to 3 night shifts per month, on call from home. Some of these shifts may be doubled by a resident or fellow on first call. Weekend shifts are always performed by 2 hematologist-oncologists. Their frequency is one weekend every 6 weeks. Each hematologist-oncologist is entitled to up to 7 weeks of vacation per year and 2 weeks per year for conferences or training.
Remuneration is through the hematologist-oncologists’ society of CHU Sainte Justine, with the earnings of each hematologist-oncologist pooled in the society and then redistributed based on the percentage of activity of each hematologistoncologist.
