2025 SIOP Sessions

Tuesday 25th November

  • Global Mapping of Paediatric Oncology Services: Highlighting Progress in Different Continental Regions: 10 – 11 am GMT

The main objective of the SIOP Global Mapping Programme is to collect information on the current landscape of paediatric oncology services around the world, and the resources available in each individual country.

Objectives of the Programme are:

  • Create a baseline of the current paediatric oncology resources available in each country. This will help SIOP and international, regional and national stakeholders in their respective childhood cancer advocacy.
  • Provide and maintain accurate information about every hospital or institution that treats children/adolescents with cancer.
  • Provide a network of resources to help develop collaborations between institutions and networks.
  • Maintain an online map showing where each hospital or institution that treats children/adolescents with cancer is located.

This year’s LGCW session will introduce the programme and give real-life examples of its impact on a local level.

  1. Introduction – Objectives and respecting our partners (Neil Ranasinghe)
  2. From collecting data to action – real examples of how we use key findings to help children with cancer. Why collecting data matters (Maite Gorostegui)
  3. The huge challenge to map India and what have we learnt (Amita Trehan)
  4. Advocacy (Guillermo Chantada/Eric Bouffet, Jennifer Geel)
  5. Panel discussion/questions

  • Paediatric Oncology Rehabilitation – Global realities in an evolving healthcare landscape: 2 – 3:30 pm GMT

This session explores the topic of childhood cancer rehabilitation & looks at the different realities faced by children with cancer & rehabilitation professionals across the world. With improving rates of survival globally, there is an increased focus on supportive care & interventions such as rehabilitation & physical medicine. Rehabilitation can optimise physical & functional outcomes, quality of life, & reduce disability in children with cancer. Additionally, rehabilitation can have positive impacts on health resources & socio-economic productivity; however, it continues to be under-resourced, with numerous countries not currently equipped to respond to existing needs. The session will provide an overview of the global status & current landscape of paediatric oncology rehabilitation, including disparities, challenges & relevant international initiatives. Five speakers will outline the reality of childhood cancer rehabilitation in their setting to improve awareness of the situation on the ground, along with challenges faced by both families & the health-rehabilitation infrastructure. The five settings will include high-, middle-, & low-income settings, as well as an active conflict zone & a resource-limited setting.

This session is hosted by Children Not Numbers, the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) and the SIOP Supportive Care Network (SIOP SCN).
