Why We Celebrate Gold September?

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month – our annual opportunity to create awareness of the impact of cancer in so many children and their families around the world.

With the development of economy and medical conditions in some areas survival rates of children with cancer keep on rising. However, this improvement is lagging in some less-developed countries. During September we also seek to highlight these inequities in the access to care and treatment.

For this campaign we use the gold colour to honour children with cancer courageous struggle against the disease. Participating in this campaign is expressing solidarity, standing up and speaking out for and with children/adolescents with cancer, childhood cancer survivors and their families.

There are many ways that you can get involved throughout September to show your commitment with our cause and to  inspire hope among children and adolescents with cancer and their families:

How You Can Get Involved:

There are many ways that you can get involved throughout September to show your commitment with our cause and to  inspire hope among children and adolescents with cancer and their families!

1. Show Your Support

We created a Gold September frame specifically for this campaign. We invite you to show your support towards Childhood Cancer awareness by sharing a photo on your social media with our new Gold September frame. We will create collages of pictures of all our members, to show that together we are stronger, and we can make a change.

STEP 1: On any web browser go to https://www.twibbonize.com/goldseptember23
STEP 2: Upload a photo from your phone or computer.
STEP 3: Download the photo with the frame.
STEP 4: Share the photo on any social media using the hashtags:

#GoldSeptember
#SupportChildrenWithCancer
#ChildhoodCancerSIOP-CCI

You can also add your own and tag us so we can see them!

2. Create Awareness

To educate our community, create awareness and debunk certain myths about childhood cancer, we will share global facts about the disease. We are looking to generate conversations about the challenges and inequities on a global level. Simple actions like resharing our posts or emails help us to raise awareness. Never underestimate the impact that just one person can have!

As we have done in the past, we want to call upon our community to advocate and honor the children and adolescents who are currently undergoing cancer treatment and their families by joining the “Light It Up Gold!” campaign.

Prominent buildings, national monuments and significant natural sites around the world are invited to participate in this campaign by lighting them up in GOLD or by hanging huge gold ribbons in their facades.

Please send your picture(s) (incl. the name of the building/landmark, city and country) to info@siop-online.org, or post it in your social media using the hashtags #GoldSeptember and #SupportKidsWithCancer
