Following the success of the inaugural World Radiotherapy Awareness Day (WRAD) on 7 September 2025, SIOP recognises the remarkable global engagement achieved in partnership with One Voice for Radiotherapy. The campaign reached supporters in 109 countries, generated over 350,000 social media interactions, and established partnerships with more than 75 professional societies and organisations, marking a major step forward in uniting the radiotherapy community worldwide.
Building on this momentum, WRAD is expanding its efforts in 2026 with a focus on strengthening regional advocacy. A key priority is the appointment of Regional Champions, who will help develop locally relevant radiotherapy networks, address specific challenges, and promote awareness, particularly for children and young people. SIOP members are warmly encouraged to express their interest in these roles and contribute to shaping advocacy efforts in their regions.
In addition, WRAD is actively seeking to amplify patient and survivor voices by inviting individuals and advocacy groups to share their stories on a global platform. This initiative aims to foster collaboration between communities, healthcare professionals, industry representatives, and policymakers.
SIOP also encourages members to engage with WRAD through upcoming activities, including events at major oncology meetings and opportunities to incorporate radiotherapy awareness into future SIOP events.
Together, these efforts will continue to elevate the role of radiotherapy in cancer care and strengthen global collaboration across the field.
