The Advocacy Committee (SAC) of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) sets the strategic direction for the organization’s policy and advocacy work across regional, national, and global levels, partnering closely with the SIOP Board of Directors and key stakeholders such as the World Health Organization. Advocacy sits at the heart of SIOP’s vision—“No child should die of cancer: cure for more, care for all”—and to advance this mission, SIOP is now seeking nominations for one Advocacy Committee member to represent the Latin America region (SLAOP) in shaping its global advocacy agenda for children and adolescents with cancer.

Role Overview

Main goal of the committee is Advocating Globally for Children and Adolescents with Cancer. In particular, Committee members are expected to:

  • Contribute regional expertise to shape global and regional childhood cancer advocacy priorities
  • Support the inclusion of childhood cancer in national and international health policies, including National Cancer Control Plans and Universal Health Coverage frameworks
  • Strengthen SIOP’s engagement with global health stakeholders and advocacy partners
  • Support awareness and advocacy campaigns (e.g. Gold September, International Childhood Cancer Day)
  • Participate actively in Committee meetings (virtual and one in-person meeting per year, typically during the SIOP Congress)
  • Serve as a liaison between SIOP and advocacy-relevant initiatives in the Latin America region

Eligibility

Nominees should:

  • Be current SIOP members
  • Be based in, or have strong professional advocacy engagement within, the Latin America region
  • Have a demonstrated track record or strong interest in childhood cancer advocacy, health policy, or public health engagement
  • Reflect SIOP’s multidisciplinary and inclusive values (clinicians, nurses, allied health professionals, researchers, Young SIOP members, and others are encouraged to apply)

Selection: Advocacy Committee members are selected from submitted nominations by the SLAOP Board.

Terms of Appointment

Committee members are appointed for a three-year term, renewable once (maximum six years), in accordance with the Advocacy Committee Terms of Reference.
