SIOP is pleased to share an invitation from the NCD Alliance (NCDA) to the first Walk the Talk webinar of 2025: “Accounting for commitments to people living with NCDs in the post-HLM4 era,” taking place on Thursday, 27 November at 15:00 CET.
In September, the Fourth High-Level Meeting on NCDs and Mental Health (HLM4) brought together governments from across the world to reaffirm their commitment to addressing noncommunicable diseases—the leading causes of death and disability. The resulting Political Declaration marks an important milestone for the global NCD community: for the first time, governments formally recognised the essential role of people with lived experience in shaping national plans and policies.
While this progress is welcome, the Declaration also presents significant gaps, including minimal recognition of civil society’s crucial role in advancing NCD action. At a time when civic space is narrowing in many settings, ensuring meaningful engagement and social participation is more vital than ever.
What to Expect from the Webinar
The session will bring together experts, advocates, and people with lived experience to:
-
Examine the outcomes of HLM4 with a focus on lived experience, meaningful engagement, and social participation—and how these themes can inform global advocacy in 2026 and beyond.
-
Discuss the importance of technical guidance and accountability frameworks to support governments in turning high-level commitments into real, measurable action.
-
Amplify civil society perspectives to help build stronger, more inclusive NCD policies at global, regional, and national levels.
This is a valuable opportunity for the paediatric oncology community to stay connected with wider NCD advocacy efforts and ensure that the needs of children and adolescents with cancer—and their families—remain visible in global policy discussions.
