New Young SIOP Project Ideas

The YSN is exploring how to implement two new projects in the coming year.

First, we are interested in developing a podcast which will likely showcase a mix of content including emerging research, educational content, professional/leadership development, and career advice/mentorship. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with vision and strong organizational skills to help coordinate the steps required to implement a pilot project, evaluate it, and move it forward to a self-sustainable output with a dedicated working group. No specific expertise or experience with respect to podcasts themselves is required to be considered for this position.

Secondly, we are exploring options for developing a new Mentorship concept within the Young SIOP Network/ within SIOP itself. Our goal with this is not to replicate existing mentorship programs which exist in a local/regional context for career and research development. Instead, we wish to focus on building life-long peer connections on a global scale and a more structured way to connect with and integrate into the SIOP community. We are looking for an individual with leadership experience and strong English communication skills to draft a project proposal with an embedded research component to establish this program. Research and/or mentorship experience is considered an asset, but is not required.

Specific Expectations for both Non-SG Leadership Positions (Podcast Development Lead & Mentorship Development Lead):

  • In conjunction with the Young SIOP Chair, Vice-Chair, and Steering Group:
    • Developing a proposal and organizational plan for implementing the new project
    • Exploring funding requirements and writing funding proposal as required
    • Identifying opportunities for research/quality improvement and manuscript development early and throughout project implementation
  • Logistical coordination and management, including setting meetings, creation of agenda/minutes, maintaining communication with project members, and reporting updates to Steering Group
