Develop the skills, networks and vision to shape the future of paediatric oncology in Africa. SIOP Africa is inviting applications for the first cohort of its Paediatric Oncology Leadership Academy. Applications close on 30 November 2026.
SIOP Africa is building a stronger, more connected paediatric oncology community, and it needs leaders who can drive progress beyond their own institutions and countries. The new SIOP Africa Paediatric Oncology Leadership Academy is designed to identify and support these leaders.
The first cohort will run from January 2027 to April 2028, ending at the SIOP Africa Congress in Addis Ababa.

Why join the Leadership Academy?
- Leadership development: build the skills and confidence to lead teams, services and initiatives in paediatric oncology.
- Mentorship: learn from experienced leaders in paediatric oncology from across the continent.
- Networking with African colleagues: connect with a cohort of peers who share your commitment to improving childhood cancer care in Africa, and build relationships that last beyond the programme.
- Opportunities to contribute to continental initiatives: take part in SIOP Africa’s work and help shape initiatives that reach beyond your home country.
Who can apply
The Academy is open to SIOP Africa members in good standing who are paediatric oncologists at least two years from qualifying and are willing to apply for leadership positions in SIOP Africa. Each applicant must also be supported by two SIOP Africa members in good standing. Places are limited, and acceptance is through a competitive application process.
Selection criteria
Applicants will be assessed against five core criteria:
- Evidence of contribution to paediatric oncology in their setting
- Growth trajectory and leadership potential: the capacity, drive and motivation to take on greater responsibility
- Continental orientation: potential for Africa-wide impact, with a clear vision and interest in collaboration beyond their home country
- Professional credibility: a solid clinical, research or programme track record
- Openness and reflectiveness
