The International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) is excited to announce our active participation in the World Cancer Congress 2024, a pivotal event for advancing global cancer care and research. This year’s Congress, held from September 16-19 in Zurich, Switzerland, promises to be a significant platform for dialogue, innovation, and collaboration.

SIOP's Presence at WCC:

1. Progress in Childhood Cancer Data Sharing to Inform Policy and Accelerate Care and Research

Date & Time: Wednesday, September 18, 2024, 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM (Europe/Zurich)
Format: Digital Session

In our digital session, SIOP will highlight the transformative potential of data sharing in childhood cancer. As the landscape of cancer care evolves, the integration of comprehensive data is critical for shaping effective policies and driving forward both care and research. This session will showcase recent advancements and explore strategies to enhance data-sharing practices on a global scale. We will discuss how these practices can be leveraged to accelerate progress and improve outcomes for children battling cancer.

2. Thriving Beyond Childhood Cancer: Local Care Priorities in Limited-Resource Settings

Date & Time: Wednesday, September 18, 2024, 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM (Europe/Zurich)
Format: Panel Discussion

This panel discussion will delve into the local care priorities for children who survive cancer in low-resource settings. It will focus on the long-term needs of survivors, including healthcare access, psychosocial support, and community integration. Our experts will share insights on creating sustainable care models that address these priorities and improve the quality of life for young survivors in diverse settings.

3. Tobacco Products & Childhood Cancer Survivorship: The International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) Advocacy Committee Preliminary Inquiry in Latin America & India

Format: E-Poster

The SIOP Advocacy Committee (SAC) formed a sub-committee to investigate tobacco product knowledge and experiences in Latin America (LATAM) and India. We found limited literature; however, WHO’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) highlights concern about tobacco’s impact on children’s health (including second-hand smoke) causing mortality of 65,000 children <15 years worldwide.

Preliminary evidence catalyses targeted tobacco action childhood cancer survivorship across LATAM, India and the Global South & aligns with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Indian Academy of Pediatrics-Ped Hem/Onc chapter (IAP-PHO) tobacco control initiatives (and others) through the WHO FCTC
