SIOP North America is pleased to introduce the SIOP North America Rising Star Award, a regional initiative recognizing outstanding early‑career professionals in pediatric oncology. This award builds on the success of the global Young SIOP Rising Star Award, established in 2022, and reflects the growing recognition that many emerging leaders across North America are making significant contributions to paediatric cancer care, research, and advocacy – contributions that cannot always be fully captured through a single global award.

Developed in collaboration with the Young SIOP Network, the SIOP North America Rising Star Award aims to acknowledge individuals who have demonstrated meaningful impact in more than one of the following key areas:

  • Leadership and program development
  • Quality improvement and/or research
  • Advocacy
  • Education and mentorship
  • Contributions to SIOP through participation in Networks, Working Groups, Committees, Special Interest Groups, or North America Branch activities

Eligibility criteria:

  • Candidates must be under 40 years old and reside full time in a country within the SIOP North America (NA) Branch
  • The award is open to all professionals working in paediatric oncology and is not restricted to MDs
  • Individuals may receive the continental award only once; receiving this award does not affect eligibility for the Global Rising Star Award
  • Candidates must be SIOP members in good standing

Application materials:

Applications should include:

    • A 1–2 page letter of intent
    • A current CV
    • Additional supporting documents may be requested at the discretion of the North America Branch

Award:

  • Thanks to the generous support of the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, the awardee will receive funding towards SIOP Congress registration and/or travel expenses (maximum $2500)
  • Recognition in the SIOP Annual Report & Formal Certificate of Achievement

Timeline:

  • Application deadline: June 19, 2026  (12:00 noon CEST)
  • Review and selection: Late June
  • Notification of applicants: First week of July
