Please take a few minutes to see the variety of activities offered last month as well as a few updates and opportunities. Many thanks go to the 160+ SIOP leaders who worked in various Networks, WGs, SIGs, Committees and Continents to offer the activities.

Highlights

  • 1,074 SIOP members attended our webinars and events in Mar & Apr 2025. Overall, for 2025 to date, we have had 1,998 unique attendees to our online events, with some people attending multiple events.

Updates on the Initiatives across the Society

  1. The SIOP Women Leaders Network issued the 2025 Almanac of Women Leaders, featuring 14 leaders from all Continents. If you wish to be inspired, feel free to read a few of the profiles.
  2. The SIOP Education & Training Committee reviewed several modules for the upcoming IPA/SIOP Course on Early Diagnosis; recordings of the modules have begun.
  3. The SIOP Epidemiology & Outcomes Network held a webinar on “Establishing a Network of Hospital-Based Registries in Resource-Limited Settings” on 4/17/25.
  4. The SIOP Nursing Network held SIOP Nursing News Meeting (4/25/25), a webinar on “Decreasing Anesthesia Time for Leukemia Patients Requiring Sedation for Routine Lumbar Puncture: A Quality Improvement Project” (4/10/25) and a webinar on “How to Write a SIOP Nursing Abstract” (3/5/25).
  5. The SIOP Survivorship Network held a webinar on “Guidelines and Recommendations for the Care of Childhood Cancer Survivors” on 4/2/25.
  6. The SIOP GHN PROS WG held a webinar on “Radiotherapy for Rhabdomyosarcoma” on 3/6/25.
  7. The SIOP GHN Psychosocial Wellbeing WG held a webinar on “The Gestalt Therapy Approach to Psychosocial Oncology” on 04/17/25 and co-hosted with the PPO Network a webinar on “Sleep Needs of Childhood Cancer Patients” on 03/26/25.
  8. The SIOP GHN Research and Innovations WG designed a survey for abstract submitters to see what hurdles exist in turning Congress abstracts in published papers.
  9. SIOP Nutrition Network held a webinar on “Nutritional Challenges in Childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia” on 3/26/25 and on “Physical Activity Interventions in Childhood Cancer Patients After Treatment” on 4/30/25.
  10. The SIOP GHN Traditional and Complementary Medicine WG held a webinar on “Pediatric Integrative Oncology in Chile: A Comprehensive Approach to Cancer Care” on 3/20/25.
  11. The SIOP Supportive Care Network held an update meeting on 3/20/25.
  12. The SIOP GHN held DISPLEN webinars on ALL on 4/24/25, Strategies to Improve the Outcome of Wilms Tumor: SIOP Protocol and Treatment Adaptations in LMICs 3/27/25 and Hodgkin’s Lymphoma 3/5/25.
  13. The SIOP Advocacy Committee build a library of initiatives for ICCD and is planning a Survivors’ Week event.
  14. The SIOP PARC Committee signed contracts with GALOP and PSPO for RFP#2 Funding of Cooperative Groups’ Capacity Development. A NCE was granted to POEM under RFP#1.
  15. The SIOP WHO NSA Cmt welcomed Maja Beck-Popovic as the new Chair of the Cmt, is planning to support several statements for the WHA2025 and is working on advocacy positions and participation in the 4th High Level Forum on NCDs / UNGA.
  16. The SIOP Scientific Committee received record number of abstracts for the Amsterdam Congress.
  17. SIOP Global Mapping of Paediatric Oncology Services Committee began efforts in mapping out of Oceania pediatric oncology services.
  18. SIOP Asia has organized a pan-Asia SIOP Meet-Ups Initiative and held a successful 2025 Asia Congress (Apr 12-15) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with 550 attendees present and many speakers/moderators. Congratulations to SIOP Asia Country Ambassadors, nominated by their national pediatric oncology societies, who were just approved by the SIOP Asia Executive Board.
