Dear SIOP Members,

Please take a few minutes to see the variety of activities offered last month as well as a few updates and opportunities. Many thanks go to the 160+ SIOP leaders who worked in various Networks, WGs, SIGs, Committees and Continents to offer the activities.

Highlights

  • 301 SIOP members attended our webinars and events in May 2025. Overall, for 2025 to date, we have had 2,299 unique attendees to our online events, with some people attending multiple events.
  • The 2024 SIOP Annual Report was issued – please take a look at the wealth of activities, programs and initiatives that we offered our members last year, all organized and delivered by our SIOP leaders!
  • 2025 Annual Congress (Amsterdam) – registration is open here. Early bird registration deadline is July 23!

 Updates on the Initiatives across the Society

  • The Young SIOP Network held an online ABM on 5/28/25 featuring a keynote lecture on “Exceptional Leadership: 16 Critical Competencies for Healthcare Leaders” by Dr George Velez.
  • SIOP Nutrition Network held a webinar on CT-Oriented Body Composition Analysis in Pediatric Wilms Tumor: Advancing Precision Nutrition and Personalized Oncology Care” on 5/28/25.
  • The SIOP GHN Traditional and Complementary Medicine WG held a webinar on “Complementary medicine and care in pediatric oncology in Switzerland and Germany” on 5/26/25.
  • The SIOP PPO Network received many applications for the Tori Willard Early Career Award.
  • The SIOP Supportive Care Network held an update meeting on 5/22/25 and featured a presentation on the Zippy Game.
  • The SIOP GHN held a DISPLEN webinar on “Strategies to Improve Retinoblastoma Outcomes in Low Resource Settings” on 5/23/25.
  • The SIOP Advocacy Committee marked the World No Tobacco Day by raising awareness of the harmful impact of tobacco product exposure on children.
  • The SIOP WHO NSA Cmt Chair delivered a Constitutency Statement calling for the inclusion of childhood cancer in the UN 4th High Level Meeting Declaration on NCDs. The SIOP Essential Medicines Working Group became an official member of the Global Accelerator for Paediatric Formulations Network (GAP-f).
  • The SIOP Scientific Committee has reviewed all the abstracts for the Amsterdam Congress and abstract notifications will be sent out by end-June 2025.
  • The Governance Cmt reviewed and approved the TOR of the SIOP Global Mapping of Paediatric Oncology Services Committee.
  • SIOP Asia organized a pan-Asia SIOP Meet-Ups Initiative and held a successful Meet-Ups in many countries: Azerbaijan, Russia, Syria, Bangladesh, Thailand, Iran, Nepal, Pakistan, Lebanon, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, and Hong Kong. Meet-Ups in India, Cambodia and Armenia are coming in June 2025. This was a pilot initiative for in-person networking at the country level.
  • SIOP Africa offered a webinar on Oncological Emergencies, with a presentation from Dr. Hasna Hamzi.
  • SIOP PARC Programme received the final report from our partner INPHOG and is reviewing a budget realignment request from our partner POEM.
