Dear SIOP Leaders,

Please take a few minutes to see the variety of activities offered last month as well as a few updates and opportunities. Many thanks go to the 160+ SIOP leaders who worked in various Networks, WGs, SIGs, Committees and Continents to offer the activities.

Highlights

  • 502 SIOP members attended our webinars and events in Sept 2025. Overall, for 2025 to date, we have had 3,522 unique attendees to our online events, with some people attending multiple events.
  • 2025 Annual Congress (Amsterdam) – registration is open here. We expect record attendance of our Congress.
  • If you cannot attend the 2025 Annual Congress in person, please consider the online attendance; More than 300 colleagues have already chosen online attendance; get your online registration today! Rates begin at 200 EUR.
  • A webpage with all off-site meetings and events which will take place around the Congress days, has been created.
  • We celebrate reaching a milestone of 4,000 members. For comparison, in 2019, SIOP members numbered 1926 people. In 5 years, we have doubled our membership with excellent retention rates.

Updates on the Initiatives across the Society

  • The SIOP Survivorship Network held a webinar on “Empowering Families: Technology-Driven Support for Children with Cancer” on 9/18/2025.
  • The SIOP GHN AI WG held an AI WG Strategizing meeting on 9/17/2025.
  • The SIOP GHN Research and Innovation WG held a webinar on “General Approach to AI in Pediatric Health Informatics” on 9/8/2025.
  • The SIOP Epidemiology and Outcomes Network held a webinar on “Challenges and Opportunities for Childhood Cancer Research in LMICs” on 9/11/2025.
  • The SIOP GHN PROS WG, with partners, held a webinar on “Radiotherapy in Neuroblastoma” on 9/9/2025.
  • The SIOP SCN Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine WG held a webinar on “Looking after yourself – The emotional & psychological aspects of working in childhood cancer “ on 9/18/2025.
  • The SIOP Secretariat shared the draft SIOP Strategy 2026-2030 with the SIOP members and received comments and reviews, which were closely considered.
  • SIOP Asia held an educational webinar on “Current Treatment Strategies in Neuroblastoma” on 9/11/2025.
  • The SIOP Scientific Committee reviewed the late breaking abstracts and accepted a few abstracts for 2 late breaking sessions at the Congress.
  • The SIOP WHO NSA Engagement Committee worked on advocacy around the UN General Assembly (UNGA80) where childhood cancer has been elevated to the highest political level through the 4th High-Level Meeting on NCDs. SIOP contributed language to a draft outcome declaration; we also co-hosted with MSK a high-level side event on Leveraging the WHO GICC to Accelerate NCD Progress and Leave No One Behind” on 9/26/2025.
  • The SIOP Advocacy Committee is developing an Advocacy Toolkit  to support members in raising awareness and influencing policy for childhood cancer. We invite you to submit useful resources, from campaign materials to policy tools, for review and inclusion, helping us create a practical, accessible collection for all members. This is your last chance to join Gold September 2025: add your voice, share your activities, and stand with children and families worldwide to turn the world gold for childhood cancer awareness.
  • SIOP Leaders and SIOP Office worked a draft paper for Cancer Control highlighting the achievements of the PARC Program.

Open SIOP Leadership Opportunities:

  • Currently, there are multiple leadership opportunities ; we are accepting self-nominations.
  • In late 2025, we will open self-nominations for several Board-level leadership positions: Treasurer-Elect, Secretary-General-Elect, GHN Chair-Elect and Advocacy Chair-elect.
