The SIOP Global Standards Framework for paediatric oncology units in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) has now been published in Pediatric Blood & Cancer (PBC), the official journal of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology.
The framework sets out practical, adaptable standards for organising and strengthening childhood cancer services in resource-limited settings.
It addresses infrastructure, multidisciplinary teamwork, infection prevention, family-centred care, and quality management, and was developed by an international group of multidisciplinary experts drawn from all SIOP Continental Branches and partner organisations, with financial support from Foundation S.
The framework aligns with the WHO Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer and its CureAll framework, and supports the shared goal of reaching 60% survival for all children with cancer by 2030. SIOP President Dr Guillermo Chantada has described the document as “a manifesto for equity,” reflecting the conviction that every child deserves access to the highest attainable standard of care in their context.
