The SIOP Spanish Language Quality Improvement (QI) Nurse Mentors’ Program launched in June 2025 to prepare Spanish-speaking nurse leaders in QI.

Five sites are currently implementing QI projects across three countries. A SIOP Nursing Network Webinar will be held in May to showcase the projects. Mentors will be ready to launch the SIOP Spanish Language QI Nurse Scholars program in July 2026. Three teams include members from Spain, Chile and Colombia.

The project in Spain is implementing a double check for high-risk drugs in hospitalized children with cancer. Team members include Eugenia Trigoso, Julia Ruíz, Adrián Julbez, and Ana Negre. Project sites include the Hospital del Niño Jesús (Madrid), Hospital St. Joan De Deu (Barcelona), and the Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe (Valencia).

The project in Chile is implementing a procedure to reduce antibiotic administration time in pediatric oncology patients with febrile neutropenia. Team members include Verónica de la Maza, Jazmín Parada, and Paola Viveros. The project is being implemented at the Hospital Dr. Luis Calvo Mackenna in Santiago, Chile.

The project in Colombia is standardizing central venous catheter lock therapy using 4% sodium citrate on the hematopoietic stem cell transplant unit. Team members include Mónica Lorena Quijano, Ángela Barrera, and Mónica Villalobos. The project is being implemented at the Clínica Imbanaco in Cali, Colombia.
