Dear SIOP Members,

We are delighted to share wonderful news with our entire community. The Final Political Declaration of the 4th High-Level Meeting on Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) and Mental Health was adopted yesterday by the United Nations General Assembly.

Importantly, the Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer (GICC) target was retained within the Political Declaration under point 53:

Improve childhood cancer survival through scaling up interventions in order to achieve a survival rate of at least 60 per cent globally by 2030, as proposed by the Global Initiative for Childhood Cancer.

A tremendous achievement that underscores the power of our collective advocacy and leadership across the global childhood cancer community.

This success would not have been possible without the dedication, collaboration, and tireless efforts of our members and partners. Together, we have elevated childhood cancer to the highest political levels and ensured that it remains central to the global NCD agenda.

As we celebrate this milestone, our shared work continues. The next step is to ensure that governments uphold and implement the commitments outlined in the Declaration for childhood cancer and paediatric NCDs, including sickle cell disease.

On behalf of SIOP, heartfelt thanks to each of you for your leadership and unwavering commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people with cancer worldwide.

Wishing you all a joyful holiday season and renewed energy for the year ahead as we continue advancing together toward the goals of the GICC.
