Jonathan is a paediatric surgeon and Senior lecturer at the University of Sydney. His main appointment is at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead where he commenced as a specialist in 2010. He also holds appointments at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Westmead Private Hospital.
Following a period training in thoracic surgery he undertook both his adult and paediatric surgical fellowships, completing this in 2006, which was followed by the completion of his PhD.
He is passionate about teaching, education and research. He is the current deputy chairperson for the Board of Paediatric surgery, which supervises paediatric surgical training across both Australia and New Zealand. He is a senior lecturer at the University of Sydney and regularly tutors undergraduate and postgraduate students towards higher degrees.
He has served and currently serves on a number of committees including the, Sydney Children’s Network Human Research Ethics committee, Australasian Association of Paediatric Surgery (ANZAPS) executive committee, and has led working parties for the Section of Academic Surgery into research requirements for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS).
His research interests include immunotherapy for refractory paediatric solid tumours, long term follow up in thoracic conditions of childhood, tissue oxygen monitoring in paediatric patients and randomized trials in childhood surgical conditions.
He has a broad range of paediatric surgical clinical interests with a focus on minimally invasive surgery, thoracic conditions of childhood, paediatric surgical oncology, and transplantation in children.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, surfing, ocean swimming and Scuba diving.
