The SIOP Nursing Network is excited to share the preliminary Nursing Programme for SIOP 2026 in San Antonio, Texas, from September 15–18, 2026!
This year’s programme brings together pediatric oncology nurses, researchers, clinical leaders, patients, survivors, parents, and international experts. Across four days, participants will have opportunities to explore emerging clinical evidence, strengthen professional skills, exchange experiences, and build meaningful global collaborations.
Our Nursing Education Day on September 15 will begin with Beyond Borders: Empowering Global Nursing Collaborations, featuring experiences in humanitarian health, caring for refugee children with cancer, and building regional learning communities for pediatric oncology nurses. The morning will continue with an important session on delivering difficult news, including communication strategies, cultural considerations, and the perspectives of parents and survivors.
In the afternoon, we will focus on the retention and engagement of pediatric oncology nurses, addressing professional distress, burnout, and strategies to support the workforce. A leadership panel will share personal journeys, lessons, career pivots, and possibilities within pediatric oncology nursing. Education Day will conclude with From Paper to Practice, an interactive session exploring how nursing, psychosocial, survivorship, nutrition, palliative care, and global standards can be implemented in real-world settings.
During the Congress Days, the Nursing Programme will open with a Working Group session on translating symptom science into practice, followed by the official Nursing Opening Session on September 16. We will also feature a Women Leaders Session and a wide range of oral and rapid-fire abstract sessions addressing the emotional cost of oncology nursing, financial strain among caregivers, psychosocial and developmental outcomes, caregiver support, quality improvement, digital innovation, supportive care, workforce development, and global nursing systems.
The Top Abstracts Session will recognise excellence in nursing research, education, quality improvement, and implementation of the SIOP Baseline Nursing Standards. Later that day, the Nursing Ambassador Programme and Nursing Poster Walk will offer opportunities to meet colleagues, engage with presenters, and celebrate nursing achievements from around the world.
On September 17, a special keynote by Lisa Morrissey will address the assessment of financial toxicity among caregivers of children and adolescents with cancer. This will be followed by the Nursing Symposium, Advancing Symptom Management and Supportive Care in Pediatric Oncology, featuring therapeutic communication and psychological support, artificial intelligence in supportive care, and technology-enabled symptom management.
Throughout the congress, participants can join abstract sessions showcasing innovations in caregiver support, symptom assessment, nutrition, sleep, digital health, early warning systems, rehabilitation, nursing education, workforce resilience, and nurse-led care delivery. Our Poster Happy Hours, Poster Walks, Welcome Networking Reception, and SIOP Networking Event will provide relaxed spaces to exchange ideas, reconnect with colleagues, and build new international partnerships.
On September 18, the Nursing Business Meeting will provide an important opportunity to hear updates about Nursing Network activities and future priorities.
One of the highlights of the programme will be the SIOP Nursing Roundtable Luncheon, sponsored by Servier. In small-group discussions, participants will be able to engage directly with international experts on leadership, mentorship, quality improvement, baseline nursing standards, research, survivorship, palliative care, symptom management, professional well-being, cultural and language barriers, infection prevention, integrative therapies, and home care. Pre-registration is required, so be sure to reserve your place early.
We will close the programme by celebrating our shared achievements, recognising the contributions of the global pediatric oncology nursing community, and looking ahead to future collaboration.
