Dear Colleagues,

We have taken the decision to refine ecancermedicalscience’s submission criteria to only accept articles which feature at least one author from a Lower and Middle Income Country (LMIC), or which have a significant impact on under-resourced settings.

This pioneering approach will allow us to contribute towards addressing the current imbalance in global scientific publishing and combat the significant lack of data on which to base national cancer control plans in LMICs.

We feel that the time is right to proactively support authors from LMICs, where the majority of new cancer cases will occur over the next two decades, and the global collaborations that are vital to the development of key skills in this area.  Our hope is that this will encourage fruitful partnerships between High Income Countries and LMICs to progress the pace of cancer research globally.

The new submission criteria will come into effect from the 21st September 2020. All articles undergoing peer review or commissioned before this date will continue to go through the peer-review process as standard. The journal will continue to publish important COVID-19 research.

If you have any questions regarding this development please get in touch via editor@ecancer.org.
