Dear SIOP Members,

The SIOP Education and Training Committee is responsible for the work on Goal 3 of the SIOP Strategy 2021-2025 (Providing Education and Training). According to the Strategic Plan, to meet this goal, SIOP will:

  • Improve early detection with creation and dissemination of relevant guidance
  • Share educational and training opportunities
  • Create online educational material and repositories

SIOP also strives to make opportunities for continued education and training for the entire SIOP community and childhood cancer stakeholders around the world.

At a recent meeting, the SIOP Board of Directors decided to open a Call for Nominations for a new Chair of the SIOP Education and Training Committee, replacing Dr. Muhammad Saghir Khan who has aptly led the Committee from its inception in 2020. To date, the Education and Training Committee developed and carried out a well-received webinar series on early diagnosis and treatment of childhood cancer (CEDAR) in collaboration with the International Pediatric Association.

Position Description

The Chair position for the SIOP Education and Training Committee is a 3-year commitment and is an unpaid, volunteer leadership position. The Chair-elect will begin their term immediately after the election and assume full responsibility in October 2023 at the SIOP Annual Congress.

The Chair leads an 11-person Committee to develop and carry out education / training activities. The Committee meets monthly online. A priority task will be to update the Terms of Reference of the SIOP Education and Training Committee and to review the SIOP Education and Training Committee Strategy with Committee members. It is expected that this Committee’s activities will be planned with consideration of input from all six SIOP Continental Branches and seven SIOP Networks, as appropriate.

Eligibility

The prospective candidate must be a) a SIOP member in good standing with membership dues paid for the current year, and b) have a proven track record of childhood cancer-related education and training strategic planning and program management, preferably including online programs.

Candidates should submit a CV, a motivation letter and a photo. Click here to submit a (self-)nomination. The motivation letter should elaborate on the candidate’s past experience in developing and delivering education and training programs for a professionally diverse audience.

Prior to submitting a nomination, members are strongly encouraged to review the Terms of Reference of the SIOP Education and Training Committee and the Goal 3 of the SIOP Strategy 2021-2025 in order to better understand SIOP’s scope and aspirations for education and training.

Election Procedures

Candidates are nominated or self-nominate. Nominations will then be reviewed and shortlisted by the SIOP Board of Directors. A maximum of three prospective candidates will be put forward to a vote by the general SIOP Membership.

Election Timeline

  • Deadline for Nominations: July 15, 2023
  • Shortlisting of Candidates by the SIOP Board of Directors: July 31, 2023
  • Announcement of Shortlisted Candidates: August 1, 2023
  • Online Voting by SIOP Members: August 1-August 15, 2023
  • Result announcement (By email): September 1, 2023
